Very Mixed Media

People often ask me what it means when my work is described as “Mixed Media”. I usually stammer a bit after the question, and then I mention a few ingredients. However, that barely scratches the surface, so, I thought it would be amusing (for others, and myself) to make the long list of materials that might be included in any given painting.

So, here it is, in no particular order…

Acrylic Paint
A proprietary “plaster mix”
Oil paint
Permanent pen
Glaze medium
Adhesives
Crackle medium
Asphalt roof coating
Texture & gel mediums
Gesso
Found objects (shells, rocks, bits of ribbon, corroded spark plugs,
driftwood, puzzle pieces, etc.)
Metal leaf
Patina solutions
Encaustic wax
Print transfer
Collage bits (text book pages, blueprints, clothing patterns, maps,
documents, handmade paper, etc.)
Thread used for sewing
Pencil
Sand
Glitter
Mica
Vermiculite
Alcohol
Powdered pigments
Cement stains
Pastels
Paste wax
Petroleum Jelly
Spray paint
Shellac
Concrete bonder
Vinegar
Metal bits (nails, brads, grommets, screws, keys, etc.)
Resin
Pumice powder
Fabric
Contact paper
Bleach
Caulk

And finally, whatever might strike my fancy!
